just brilliant.
interesting story here.
on november 21, 2011, oliver ressler, artist based in vienna, was awarded a public art commission by ig kultur tirol to produce this poster (reads “elections are a con”). the posters were to be displayed over a period of two weeks in innsbruck (austria) as a series of city-light posters or on large billboards.
a month later he was notified by an email from the cultural department of the tyrolean provincial government that
after another thorough examination of the submitted documents and in consultation with a member of the provincial government of tyrol, dr. palfrader, the project would not be supported.
the tyrolean provincial government, mag. nagiller wöll explained, could not support the work, because the text on the poster would be wrong.
surprise surprise.
i know, i know.
i should tell you who they are, since they’re very well known (that is, in the field of yodeling, or alpine choiring).
btw, if you’re not familiar with it, ‘yodel’ is - from my trustworthy, though very basic, computer dictionary – is to ‘practice a form of singing or calling marked by rapid alternation between the normal voice and falsetto.’ there we go. take it or leave it.
in any case, i’m sorry. i have somewhere the postcard, and on its back there’s the name of the group, but can’t find neither the postcard nor the name. this is what i have.
you can either suggest a name, because you know it, or make one up, because you think it suits them. in any case, i’m looking forward to hear from you.

a shot by monika höfler, 2010.
you won’t believe it, but there’s a whole touring exhibition about alpine aesthetics: sight-seeing / places and perspectives of interest.
the subtitle says:
in tirol
oder
entscheidungen
zum bild der
touristischen landschaft
something like ‘decisions for the picture of the tourist landscape’ - fascinating. i mean, linking the cartier-bressonian (arguable) idea of the ‘decisive moment’ with the (as much arguable) idea of the tourist shot. i’m very intrigued.
the exhibition is accompanied by three essays, and it’s sponsored by the tirolean tourism board, which makes the thing even more interesting. how would you like to see the landscape on a brochure or website? food for thought.
from tamar guimaraes, who tagged the picture as ‘normal_august210’, not sure what it means. tamar is an artist and was in residency in innsbruck, austria, for a period of time a couple of years ago.
this picture is one of the few ‘oldies’ she got while researching in innsbruck for an exhibition. i will post more later on.
it’s part of a folder named ‘berg/ski/snow’, contained in another folder aptly named ‘alpine’. fate.
UNTITLED is a thematic blog of obsessions (or more professionally said, investigations) into a particular topic, either visual, textual or aural. topics will vary in time but only after thorough research and long-term commitment. (investigation is a serious business, i would never waste my and your time with superficial info. almost.) we kick off with mountains. feel free to share this journey; it’s a mix bag of fun, thoughts and cross-disciplinary communication. most of the material is appropriated from press, broadcast or online sources, some is mine. if I have the source, I’ll tell you, or link. if not, either because i kept the cut-out or clip for too many years, forgot to copy the author’s name, or simply couldn’t find out, i'll leave it blank. if it’s yours, do drop me a line. nothing is immortal anyway. enjoy, alfredo :)
